Definitions

HDR:
Higher Degree by Research

This policy describes the process by which travel support funding is distributed and the staff who are eligible for support.

Policy

Background

All academic and research staff should have the opportunity to attend and present at national and international conferences on a regular basis. Communication of research results is an essential part of the peer review process.

Eligible staff

All academic and research staff (including adjunct and clinical staff) are eligible to apply for travel support funding subject to the following conditions:

The staff member must

  • have a contract that extends at least six months beyond the conference dates
  • present a paper or poster approved by the conference committee
  • not have other sources of income to fund the travel
  • must not have received travel support funding in the same calendar year.

You can apply for travel support if you have submitted a communication for consideration by the conference committee. However, funding will be available only to applicants who have an approved paper or poster.

HDR students are not eligible to apply for these funds. Travel support for HDR students is available from the Graduate Research School and as part of the Research Productivity funding allocated by the School.

Award conditions

The award is a travel or conference support contribution up to $2500 towards registration, travel and accommodation costs.

Submission

There will be two funding rounds each year with the available funds distributed evenly between the two rounds.

Applications can be submitted at any time prior to the closing date of the current funding round to the Head of School using the Staff Travel Support application form.

Assessment

An assessment panel, comprised of three senior members of staff, will be examine all applications and provide advice to the Head of School.

Priority will be given to travel that will support the strategic aims of the School.

Junior staff and those staff who have not received travel support in the past two years are encouraged to apply.

Allocation of travel support funding is at the discretion of the Head of School and subject to budget availability. Travel support funding for adjuncts and clinical staff may be funded from the Pooled Research Productivity Fund.
