Medical Microbiology

Our group uses an integrated systems biology approach that combines clinical, cell biology, molecular and epidemiological skills in order to develop a mechanistic understanding of infection.

Working under the umbrella of applied complexity theory, specifically biocomplexity, we will strengthen our understanding of the aetiology of infectious diseases so that we can improve aspects of diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Key research themes include field applications of molecular microbiology, tropical infectious diseases, the systems biology of severe sepsis, microbial taxonomy and applied microbial bioinformatics. Current research collaborations include the Americas, Europe and the Indian Ocean Rim.
