The School of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PaLM) believes in engaging with the community.
In 2009 and 2011 imagery which shows the majesty and wonder of pathology and laboratory medicine was captured through microscopes by PaLM researches. The images, which you can now view, were exhibited in Perth at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Art Gallery and at Scitech. The artworks now add beauty to the hallway leading to PaLM's main administration office.
The School's New Approaches To Teaching (NATT) team, with the assistance of PaLM lecturers, laboratory technicians, and teaching support, have produced a range of educational instructional videos that explain and outline common lab techniques. The videos have become essential viewing for students before wet labs.
PaLM welcomes a bunch of excited, intelligent, and science-loving high school students into our teaching facilities each year as part of our commitment to the National Youth Science Forum. The students, who are about to enter Year 12, participate in a range of activities which immerse them in the world of tertiary science thereby allowing the students to fully appreciate what is on offer in terms of science from various universities around Australia.
PaLM researchers are currently investigating issues that affect our community, such as mosquito-borne virus populations and the importance of translating pathology research into clinical practice. To keep you up to date with some of the exciting research taking place we have prepared some Info Sheets which explain some of the important research currently taking place.
The FA Hadley Pathology Museum contains a unique and valuable collection of 3500 preserved, dissected human specimens mounted in plastic containers, as well as a searchable online specimen catalogue.
